IVF Process Step by Step

1. Initial Fertility Consultation

The first step in your journey is to have a full fertility evaluation. We spend time analyzing your medical history and perform all critical tests, including blood tests, pelvic ultrasound, and semen analysis to develop a treatment plan that suits you.

2. Ovarian Stimulation

For a greater chance of success, you will receive hormone injections to make your ovaries grow several eggs over 8-12 days. We monitor your response through periodic ultrasound scans and blood tests.

3. Trigger Injection

A single ‘trigger' injection is administered when your eggs are at an appropriate stage in their maturation. This will allow full maturation of the eggs before they are retrieved.

4. Egg Retrieval

A simple and brief procedure is conducted approximately 36 hours after the trigger shot to retrieve the eggs. A light sedation will be administered so that you are completely relaxed during the 15-20 minute procedure.

5. Sperm Collection

On the same day as egg retrieval, a fresh semen sample is drawn and assessed in our state-of-the-art embryology laboratory to select the healthiest and most motile sperm.

6. Fertilization in the IVF Lab

Eggs retrieved and processed sperm are mixed in a controlled environment. If the sperm quality needs to be supplemented, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) will be employed to inject one sperm directly into the egg.

7. Embryo Culture

Our embryology team is able to observe the fertilized egg grow into healthy embryos over 3-5 days, and frequently reaches the resilient blastocyst stage before transfer.

8. Embryo Transfer

One or two healthy embryos are placed directly into your uterus in a simple and painless procedure guided by ultrasound. No sedation is required, and it is possible to go home shortly afterwards.

9. Pregnancy Test

To determine pregnancy, a blood test is performed 10-14 days after transfer to see if you are pregnant based on your hCG hormone level.

How Long Does the IVF Process Take?

It takes approximately 2-3 weeks to complete a standard IVF cycle from the beginning of ovarian stimulation until the embryo transfer. But this depends on the person’s medical requirements, frozen embryo transfer, or pre-treatment testing.
