PICSI (physiological ICSI) is an advanced laboratory technique that helps assess sperm maturity and quality during IVF. In natural conception, only mature sperm can attach to hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found around the egg. In PICSI, sperm are deposited in a special dish that is coated with hyaluronic acid. Our embryologist is then able to select the best sperm for microinjection that will help better embryo development, as only mature and healthy sperm can bind to the surface.

PICSI is not required for every couple undergoing fertility treatment. However, it may be recommended in specific situations to help optimize your chances of IVF success.
You may benefit from PICSI if you have:

| Feature | PICSI | Standard ICSI |
| Sperm selection | Hyaluronic acid binding | Visual selection |
| Goal | Select mature sperm | Select motile sperm |
| Best suited for | Selected male infertility cases | Most ICSI cases |
| Evidence | May help selected patients | Standard IVF technique |
Here is how the test procedure works step by step:
Research from global fertility authorities including ESHRE, ASRM, HFEA, and Cochrane Reviews shows that PICSI treatment is not necessary for every patient. Current medical evidence suggests PICSI may reduce miscarriage rates in specific patient groups. However, it has not consistently shown higher overall live birth rates compared to standard ICSI. Because of this, routine use in every IVF cycle is not recommended. The decision should always be tailored to your individual diagnosis.
